Backup! Get Dropbox.
Don’t you hate it when you save a file over the original file that you actually wanted to keep? Did you ever lose a files because of a crashed hard drive or virus? Did you ever wish you could access your files from another computer? I used to, but not anymore. I’m using Dropbox for quite a while now and in short: it’s awesome. Let me explain what it does.
Dropbox is a little program you install on your computer, and it creates a folder called “My dropbox”. Any file you put in there will be automatically backed up whenever you make a change to it.
The part I like is that they keep versions of the file you update. So if you ever save over an original, or template, you can always go back into Dropbox to get the original file back. That saved me a lot of headaches over time.
You can also synchronize files between computers, even if you’re not in a network. All you need is a decent internet connection. This way, you can have your files where-ever you are.
Don’t worry about security. Your files are safe. They will be backed up online, in a secure space. No-one will be able to access them without your password.
To get you started, Dropbox gives you 2GB of storage for free. If you need more space, you can use the referral system to gather more space, or choose a paid account, which will give you 50GB of storage for USD $99/year, or 100GB for USD $199/year (See the plans here).
Alternative
Another great program that does pretty much the same, but uses different plans is called Mozy. They also start you off with 2GB to try it out. For USD $4,95/month you get unlimited backup space!
Either way, whichever you choose, you never have to lose files again.
